One series I enjoyed a lot quite some time ago was Baby & Me which came from creator Marimo Ragawa. While that’s been long done and over with, their latest work with Mashiro no Oto arrived with an April 2nd, 2021 debut. It’s being simulcast as Those Snow White Notes on Crunchyroll and the streaming service is bringing out some clips for the show. This one comes from the third episode where Shuri’s earbuds are pulled out in front of class!

Hiroaki Akagi will direct it based on the scripts coming from Yoichi Kato. Jiro Mishima is adapting the character designs with Shinei Animation handling the production.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Nobunaga Shimazaki as Setsu Sawamura
  • Yoshimasa Hosoya as Wakan Sawamura
  • Yume Miyamoto as Shuri Maeda
  • Reina Kondo as Yui Yamazato
  • Nobuhiko Okamoto as Kaito Yaguchi
  • Tatsuhisa Suzuki as Rai Nagamori
  • Takako Honda as Umeko Sawamura
  • Fukushi Ochiai as Ushio Arakawa
  • Yuuki Kaji as Takaomi Kaji
  • Yuna Taniguchi as Sakura Yamano
  • Tomohisa Asou as Matsugorо̄ Sawamura
  • Tomoyo Takayanagi as Keiko Koyabu
  • Kyо̄ya Kimura as Hiroshi Ōtawara
  • Tetsuya Kakihara as Taketo

The series features the ending theme song “Until I Wake From Dreaming” by Miliyah Kato and Yoshida Brothers, and the opening theme song with “BLIZZARD” by BURNOUT SYNDROMES.

The manga began in 2009 in Monthly Shonen Magazine and has twenty-five volumes released so far through Kodansha Japan. We may see this one get fast-tracked digitally by Kodansha Comics USA. Check out the promo produced for the manga during its 10-year anniversary last year below to get an idea of the designs.

Plot Concept: The story follows a girl as she comes across a boy on the street with an unusual instrument case. This chance encounter between an idol singer hopeful and a player of the traditional Japanese three-stringed shamisen leads both on a journey to discovering their figurative and literal voices.
