We learned last May about the TV anime adaptation of the Kenja no Deshi o Nanoru Kenja light novel series and last month a new update came in that revealed Funimation to be a co-producer on it. Going with the English title of She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man, a quick teaser was released then and Funimation has now brought it out with the single line of dialogue from it subtitled.

The series is set as a Funimation exclusive for streaming later in 2021.

The series has Keitaro Motonaga directing it based on the scripts overseen by Takamitsu Kouno. Kumi Horii is handling the character designs with Studio A-Cat handling the animation production.

Only one actor has been revealed so far with Nichika Omori as Mira. Check out her character design below.

The novel series began in 2012 and is ongoing with thirteen volumes in print so far by Hirotsugu Ryusen. A manga adaptation began in 2016 by Dicca Suemitsu that has six volumes out.

Plot Concept: She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man follows Sakimori Kagami, a young man who’s spent four years perfecting his avatar in the online VRMMORPG Arch Earth Online.

Going by the name Dunbalf, he’s known across the land of this virtual world. But one night before bed, Kagami uses an in-game vanity case that’s about to expire—opting to create his ideal version of a female Dunbalf avatar for fun.

Waking up, he’s surprised to find that he’s now in the body of the avatar he created the night before, and he’ll have to work his way from the bottom up! So he’s a young dude, playing an old dude, who is now playing a young girl—who is still that old dude.

Mira is described as a beautiful summoner who identifies herself as Dunbalf’s pupil. And if you’ve been keeping up, you’ll remember that she is Dunbalf, which means her abilities are the same as his. Despite her youthful appearance, she speaks like an old man.
