One of my favorite recent movies was the Knives Out piece since it was filmed in my area – a rarity overall – and there’s always that enjoyment of seeing places you go within it. With a strong cast and a director that I like a lot in Rian Johnson, the promise of more has kept me interested in seeing where it goes.
Now, it looks like a streaming bidding war heated up over this with Apple, Amazon, and others including Netflix was getting really competitive with it. The first film was a one-off through Lionsgate where it was $40 million to make and earned over $300 million worldwide. Netflix looks to be the winner here as they’ve gained the rights to produce two sequels to it with Rian Johnson returning to direct and has already written the sequels for it. Daniel Craig will be reprising his role as Benoit Blanc as well.
According to Deadline and other sources, the deal is worth at least $400 million with some listing it as closer to $450 million.
