2nd ‘Etotama’ Anime Project Sets Debut

2 min read

We learned back in February 2018 that the second season of Etotama was in the works but then we learned in October 2020 that it was being done as a one-episode short. Which is a far cry from a promised second season so it’s likely going to disappoint the few fans who may even remember that a second season was promised.

The official site has now updated about the 30-minute OVA that will stream next spring in Japan. To complement the project, they’re also doing three audio dramas that come in a twenty-minutes each, making the end project in total when it hits home video probably a 90-minute mixed media release.

The latest information is that the OVA and the accompanying program will debut in May on Abema and other streaming services with it to be detailed closer to its debut.

The first season was produced by Shirogumi Inc and Tablier communications. It was directed by Fumitoshi Oizako and Takamitsu Hirakawa based on scripts by Deko Akao and character designs by Asami Takahashi and Satoshi Koike. The Japanese cast included Hiro Shimono as Takeru Tendo, Rie Murakawa as Nyaatan, Ai Ozawa as Umatan, Eriko Matsuki as Mootan, Yumiri Hanamori as Uritan, Yuka Aisaka as Usatan, Megumi Toda as Kitan and Mikoi Sasaki as Piyotan.

Plot concept: The seemingly eternal cat-and-mouse battle has ended, and now everyone is living peacefully. One day, an Eto-musume (Zodiac girl) named Na-tan appears, to the puzzlement of the 12 signs, and to the unreserved delight of Nya-tan (whose spirits are always lifted by the pure, straightforward Na-tan). Meanwhile, Chu-tan also appears and warns of a looming disaster. “The seal … has been broken.” Who is this mysterious Eto-musume Na-tan? What in the world is the deity that has awoken beneath the seal?
