The Weekly TV Discussion Post For March 21st, 2021

So. Much. TV.

As we’ve worked through the month of March, we’ve managed to watch our data caps pretty well, partially in shifting shows streaming from 1080p to 720p without noticing too much difference (especially for the elders in the house) and just shifting more to watching things I’ve previously purchased, some of which I’ve not actually watched before. We’re still burning through a lot of stuff to watch and while the bulk of the list below is what I’m doing personally, we’ve also had a few other shows and movies done by others on the staff. That includes the Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story Review, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years Preview, and our Raya and the Last Dragon Review.

We’ve mostly whittled away our list of shows to watch in several of our streaming service queues so we’re definitely in a good place.

Current Netflix queue: I Am WomanRebecca, Cool Hand Luke, Tribes of Europa, The Dig

HBO Max queue: David Bowie: The Last Five Years, Watchmen TVWestworld S3

Hulu queue: Das BootSwing ThingsI Kill GiantsThey Shall Not Grow Old

This was a rare week when I didn’t make it onto Netflix at all, though I have a few movies and a show to get working on. This was a distracted week as my daughter had a birthday (hitting 21!) and a few other things were done instead. That meant most evenings were given over to the familiar shows and working through more Babylon 5 on HBO Max with its remastered footage. It continues to be an absolute delight.

And I cannot recommend For All Mankind enough either.

I did start Zack Snyder’s Justice League with its four-hour cut but I’m watching it with someone else and we both tapped out at the end of Part 2 – which is 68 minutes into it. We’ll get back to it soon.

With the latest Marvel Studios TV series, a different reviewer will be handling that as I needed a break after covering WandaVision. I’ve watched the first episode of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier myself, however, and really enjoyed the heck out of it for what it looks like it’s going to do.

With an evening spent with my mother, I introduced her to one of my absolute favorite movies from the late 90s with the comedy Bowfinger. Bringing together such great talents and having Eddie Murphy in a Steve Martin film was just pure comedy gold. It’s a slow build by today’s standards but as the craziness ramps up over it, it’s magic watching these talented actors bringing it to life.

In catching up on older things that I’ve got in my collection that I’ve revisited while working while trying to avoid streaming so as to not use up my data cap, it’s an odd mix this week. Over the course of the week, I’ve background watched:

  • The Hobbit Trilogy
  • From Beijing With Love
  • The Croods
  • 12 Years A Slave
  • Bohemian Rhapsody
  • Alien: Covenant
  • The 400 Blows
  • The Big Chill
  • Raising Arizona
  • Quest for Camelot
  • The Lady Vanishes

Movie reviews this year:

  1. Happy Happy Joy Joy: The Ren & Stimpy Story Review
  2. Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years Preview
  3. Raya and the Last Dragon Review
  4. The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run Review
  5. The Little Things Review
  6. In Other Words Review
  7. Earwig and the Witch Review
