Funimation Begins Streaming ‘The Eccentric Family’ First Anime Season

2 min read

Eccentric Family CoverFunimation’s digging into another property from the NIS America catalog, one that never got quite the attention that I think it should, with the first season of The Eccentric Family. The distributor has now added the first season for streaming to their catalog with all of them available. Due to it being a sublicense it’s only available to viewers in the US and Canada where NIS America has the rights.

The first season was directed by Masayuki Yoshihara based on the series composition by Shotaro Suga. THe character designs were done by Kousuke Kawazura based on the illustrations from Koji Kumeta in the novel from Tomihiko Morimi. Kousuke Kawazura serves as the chief animation director.

The main Japanese case includes Takahiro Sakurai as Yasaburō Shimogamo, Ayane Sakura as Kaisei, Bon Ishihara as Sōichirō Shimogamo, Hideyuki Umezu as Akadama-sensei, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Yajirō Shimogamo, Junichi Suwabe as Yaichirō Shimogamo, Kikuko Inoue as Mother, Kosuke Hatakeyama as Ginkaku, Mai Nakahara as Yashirō Shimogamo, Mamiko Noto as Benten and Nobuo Tobita as Sōun Ebisugawa.

Plot concept: In modern-day Kyoto, humans live in the city, tengus take to the sky, and tanukis roam the earth. One such tanuki is Yasaburo, the third son of Soichiro Shimogamo, famed tanuki leader who met his end far too early at the hands of a group of humans and their year-end banquet hot pot. Yasaburo has since embraced his “fool’s blood” and strives for a happy, carefree life. But between taking care of his old tengu master Akadama-sensei, avoiding the life-threatening advances of the beautiful human Benten, dealing with his dangerously stupid twin cousins, and avoiding becoming a hot pot himself in the next year-end banquet, the young tanuki has his proverbial work cut out for him!
