The Junk Head film is something that I’ve seen bits and pieces of before but never quite got the thread on when you get down to it. Released into the theatrical circuit for festivals back in 2017 where it won some awards, the film is now set for a March 26th, 2021 debut in Japan. And the folks at GAG International have added a new trailer for it with English subtitles to interest the rest of the world.
The film comes from writer and director Takahide Hori, who also did all the character design and cinematography.
Plot Concept: Humans have gained longevity through genetic manipulation at the cost of losing fertility and are on the road to extinction. Their clones who rioted against them 1,600 years ago are now called Marigans ruling the bottomless underground and some seem to re-gain the ability of reproduction. The government sees the light of salvation in this, and decides to send civilians for its ecological survey. The appointed Burton is set for his greatest adventure down in the labyrinth of underground full of monstrous creatures to save and carry on the human kind.
