While Discotek Media has brought out the 2001 anime series Cyborg 009: The Cyborg Soldier as an SDBD release, the 51-episode series is now getting some new streaming options. The series is available on Crunchyroll now in its near-complete run in its original Japanese language with English subtitles here, making for a great weekend binge. The series has the entire run except for episode sixteen for some reason. Other services streaming the series do have it.

The series is open to viewers in the US and Canada where Discotek Media has the rights to it.

The show was a more modern attempt at bringing Osamu Tezuka’s manga to life after the original series in the 1960s.

The show has some pretty twisty paths to being licensed that are worth checking out here.

Plot Concept: Skull, the evil leader of the terrorist organization known as Black Ghost, has nine powerful cyborgs under his control. But Dr. Isaac Gilmore, the Black Ghosts cybernetics scientist, decides to go rogue, helping the cyborgs turn against Skull and his evil organization.

Black Ghost wishes to start the next major world war by flooding the market with weapons of mass destruction. It seems the nine brave cyborgs have their work cut out for them, as Black Ghost is determined to bring those nine cyborgs down.
