Akinari’s plan to increase the number of women in his personal brothel while creating unsavory rumors about Lady Tenjuin is working perfectly. His dastardly plan is a two-pronged attack. First, the Spears of Aizu kidnap newlyweds on their wedding night and give the wife to Akinari. Next, Akinari’s former concubines are forced to wear hannya masks and sleep with the husband around the clock for a few days, before dumping the shell of a man in front of the gates to Lady Tenjuin’s palace. When the public finds the frail husband all he can remember is being raped by a demoness and the rumor that Lady Tenjuin is sucking the lie force from young men quickly spreads through the countryside.
This seems like a win-win for Akinari, especially when Jyubei comes out of hiding and unsuccessfully attempts to infiltrate the Spears of Aizu ranks. The only other way Jyubei thinks he can infiltrate Aizu is to pose as a newlywed couple with one of the Hori women. I can’t think of a brasher plan, but stopping Akinari and revealing the truth behind his deeds to the public is the only way to stop the Spears of Aizu.
In Summary:
Everything goes according to Jyubei’s plan. With Okei’s help, they are kidnapped and taken to Akinari. Things go so well, Jyubei even manages to capture Akinari and keep his Spears at bay. By threatening to kill Akinari, Jyubei successfully forces the Spears to release all of the female prisoners so they can report Akinari’s foul deeds to the authorities. Only problem is Jyubei gets too cocky and falls into the flower pit below the room’s fake floor. Trapped in a water-filled pit with the dead bodies of Akinari’s concubines, things don’t look good for Jyubei and Okei. Now Akinari can take his time and shoot arrows down into the flower pit, like shooting fish in a barrel. It is going to take some serious skill for Jyubei to escape this time.
