Some things shouldn’t be chocolate flavored.

Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten from the March 2021 installment, The Taste of Chocolate is a sixteen-page story from creator Karma Tatsuro, who has just about fifty other works on the service. This was my latest experience with their work and I’m wondering how I missed such a prolific creator for all this time, making me assume that the pieces as they came up just had tags or visuals that didn’t look like they’d appeal. I’ve been enjoying their Naked Space stories more than anything else recently,l thought being choosy there because some of the designs can be really problematic, but this new story looked like it was going to tick most of the right boxes.

The tale for this one involves a couple of standard teenage stereotypes with Reito and Chiyoko. Being childhood friends, she’s keeping tradition by showing up at his house to enjoy some snacks and hang out before going home herself. He’s calling her out for being so basic about things but he can’t be bothered enough to care. To his surprise, however, she’s brought him chocolates for Valentine’s Day. Well, at least one chocolate as she ate the other five that were in the box. Luckily for him, however, she brought another box of chocolate she swiped from her mother’s bedroom where there were a few boxes of them. Chocolate-covered bananas!

Of course, that’s not what they are but it takes a bit for these two to figure it out even after opening the package and discovering what’s inside. It’s only after opening a couple of wrappers that it really sinks in and it turns comical and curious, with him trying one of them on and her deciding she wants to see if it’s as tasty as it sounds. That sets into motion an afternoon of first-time sexual shenanigans that go longer than it should for some first-timers but it’s mostly filled with lighthearted material and some decent interplay. There are a number of chocolate gags made throughout it and the silliness hits a decent level as the two go through their first time together. It sticks to the standard kind of position stuff with nothing crazy but Tatsuro’s artwork is pretty nice here and I like their style as it just feels weirdly off compared to the usual, reminiscent of a lot of 80s hentai for me in a way that’s nostalgic.

In Summary
The Taste of Chocolate gives us a couple of first-timers that are pretty clueless across the board but basic instinct is what kicks in and allows us to have a fun story. The first half sticks to the storytelling side pretty well so that we know the pair of them in a way that makes the story work better. The time spent with their innocent side is cutely comical but it’s balanced well with a kind of natural experience from there that may be a bit overlong than reality but it makes for a good story. I totally get why the artwork is hit or miss for people but it so reminds me of some the 80s hentai anime I used to get a hold of at conventions back in the day.
