What They Say:
“Mimi-Chan Wars”

With the ISS no longer being a threat, Taichi and his party continues their adventure. Taichi and Sora, who go out to look for food, happen to reunite with Mimi and Palmon. Then they are suddenly pulled into Mimi’s project.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
It’s time for some relaxation now that Tokyo is saved once more. A well-fought battle calls for some good food to celebrate. Just when most of the group is together, they split up once again. Taichi and Sora are tasked with finding food. Agumon is climbing a tree and dreaming of the sweet delicious fruit. The tree breaks and Taichi and Agumon get swept by the river. It’s disappointing that Sora jumps in after and does not have Biyomon digivolve to save them. Biyomon apologizes for not being able to save them and all’s right with the world. At the end of their ride, they end up running into Mimi.

It’s almost like the production staff decided to hold on to all the characters’ personality and give it to Mimi. Her grandfather instilled great ideals to live on. She is rapidly expanding her kingdom in the Digital World. Her latest pursuits include mining for various gems. She has taken Golemon and Gotsumon into her wing as she expands into enemy territory. Her management style is making sure all of her workers are treated equally and like family. Mimi is woke as hell as she strives for workers’ rights. I wonder if this attitude will remain with her when she becomes an adult. She is cunningly already showing an endless amount of greed with the rubies, sapphires, and everything in the mines. It gets worse as she happens to come across a diamond. Diamonds are a girl’s best friend after all. Golemon proudly announces that he is Mimi’s servant 99. Taichi and Sora were servants 72 and 73 respectively so I was wondering what happened to the numbers in between.

Even Togemon’s battle against Goblimon has a hilarious flair to it. Togemon punches Goblinmon and he bounces against the walls in an endless motion similar to a pinball. Mimi and Togemon couldn’t be any happier if they wanted with the smirks on their face. Taichi is absolutely horrified at what he is witnessing. It’s been a while but the gorgeous digivolutions scenes from earlier in the season finally make a comeback. Lilymon gets a sequence that works off splendidly out of her flower motif. Lilymon finishes off her enemy with style. To take a line from a great anime, “your drill is the drill to pierce the heavens.”

Komondomon was such a good pet but like all living creatures, he needs a break. Koshiro, Takeru, and Hikaru go off in search of him. But Komondon takes a nap and is sleeping walking and drifts further and further away from where Taichi and Sora got lost. There happen to be way too many accidents to separate the DigiDestined from each other. I don’t mind it for this episode because Mimi is rocking this episode.

In Summary:
Mimi-centric episodes are always bound to be an enjoyable time and this episode doesn’t disappoint. Could Digimon Adventure just be renamed Mimi-chan Adventures? The show would work way better if Mimi was the star of every episode. Let her take over and do anything she wants. She is the only one that has shown an ounce of personality and such an amazing personality that she demonstrates.
