Daft Punk Breaks Up After 28-Year Run

The Grammy award winning duo created the animated movie Interstella 5555 and the Tron: Legacy soundtrack.

After 28 years spanning 4 albums, the electronic music duo Daft Punk is breaking up.  The group announced their breakup via their publicist (via Variety) as well as a movie on YouTube called Epilogue:

Daft Punk would have significant influence over the anime cultural sphere.  The group produced the animated movie Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem.  The movie, based off their Discovery album had Toei Animation animate the movie with the legendary Leiji Matsumoto supervising the project with Kazuhisa Takenouchi.  Parts of this movie, including One More Time, and Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger would premier on Cartoon Network’s Toonami.

Others would be more subtle with their collaboration with Kanye West’s Stronger which would lead to the music video that referenced Akira.

Daft Punk would also create the Tron: Legacy album. Tron: Legacy, The sequel to the original Tron movie would become a cult classic. This status would be obtained partially because of the contributions of the cast, but also because of the soundtrack which Daft Punk produced.

Daft Punk would go on to win multiple awards including the Grammys for their album Random Access Memories.  The group will be remembered for producing hit tracks such as “Get Lucky” and “One More Time” but more importantly for consistently pushing the bounds of the electronic music genre as well as their contribution to culture.
