“Black Flash”
What They Say:
In a world where demons feed on unsuspecting humans, fragments of the legendary and feared demon Ryoumen Sukuna were lost and scattered about. Should any demon consume Sukuna’s body parts, the power they gain could destroy the world as we know it. Fortunately, there exists a mysterious school of Jujutsu Sorcerers who exist to protect the precarious existence of the living from the undead!
Yuuji Itadori is high schooler who spends his days visiting his bedridden grandfather. Although he looks like your average teenager, his immense physical strength is something to behold! Every sports club wants him to join, but Itadori would rather hang out with the school outcasts in the Occult Club. One day, the club manages to get their hands on a sealed cursed object, but little do they know the terror they’ll unleash when they break the seal…

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
This week’s episode was yet another exciting one. The episode resumes where the last left off as Fushiguro Kamo and Inumaki try to escape Hanami, who’s quick on their tail. Kamo and Inumaki use their powers to try and fend her off but are unfortunately injured as Hanami’s attacks injure Kamo, and Inumaki damages his voice due to his continuous attacks. Luckily, Maki steps in just in time to help Fushiguro fight Hanami (and destroys poor Miwa’s sword in the process). Maki then pulls out a powerful cursed tool which was passed between her and Fushiguro many times in the fight, showing off impressively synced attacks between the two. Unfortunately, while their attacks were impressive, they weren’t enough to stop Hanami from wounding the two. Thankfully Yuuji and Toudou tag in just in time as Panda carries the injured pair to safety.
At first, Yuuji faces Hanami alone while Toudou watches on the sidelines to support/ teach/ criticize Yuuji. As a result, Yuuji is able to pull off a powerful new move he learned from Toudou called the “Black Flash”. Afterward, Toudou steps in, and they fight Hanami together. Noticing their potential, Hanami decides to go all out, and the next few minutes show off their beautifully animated and choreographed fight. Toudou and Yuuji noticeably fought well together despite their short time together. The episode then cuts to a flashback showing a conversation between Hanami and Mahito. They discuss how cursed spirits enjoy fighting due to their chaotic nature; a trait Hanami was yet to experience until now. The episode ends on yet another cliffhanger as Toudou prepares to “unleash his technique.”
In Summary:
This episode was yet another impressive one and finally puts both Yuuji and Toudou back in the spotlight. The pair now seem to be friends despite Yuuji’s earlier reluctance to associate himself with Toudou. Yuuji is also noticeably getting stronger thanks to Toudou, and it’s quite impressive how the two are able to fight so well in-sync, no doubt due to their similar fighting styles. I’ve mentioned this in an earlier episode review, and I may be wrong, but it also seems the anime is somehow teasing Fushiguro’s power, highlighted in this episode especially. Whenever it looks like he’s about to go all out, someone stops him right before he does. Perhaps he’s hiding some incredible power we’re yet to see. All in all, this was another beautifully animated episode that features more action and less exposition.
