TC Entertainment is continuing to work through a number of their older titles by bringing them out on DVD once again and the latest to make the grade is Arabian Nights: Sindbad no Bouken. The distributor has now set a February 26th, 2021 release date for the 52-episode TV series where it’ll be priced at 25,000 yen. With that coming up soon, we keep hoping for a full packaging spread but now we just have the main cover artwork for it. The set is being released as part of the 45th-anniversary of the original broadcast and will come with a clean opening and closing as well as a booklet. It’s set to be spread across six discs in its original Japanese language with no subtitles.
Note that due to the material, the ending and the next notice are not recorded in the first episode.
The feature film previously a new release on November 9th, 2016 that uses the previous DVD transfer and is priced at 2,800 yen. The film was originally released in 1962 and was directed by Taiji Yabushita and Yoshio Kuroda based on a script by Morio Kita and Osamu Tezuka. Character designs were done by Yasuo Otsuka and it starred Hideo Kinoshita as Sinbad.
Plot concept: Sinbad and a boy, Ali, are stowaways on the transport ship “Boulder,” but they win their proper places on the ship after currying the favor of the captain. Then the beautiful princess Samir jumps on board to escape a wicked minister who wants to marry her, and Sinbad goes through a series of adventures to protect the princess. The story unfolds with ups and downs, full of dramatic episodes from the original story such as a rough-and-tumble battle with a strange bird that is guarding diamonds.
