King Records brought out the Blu-ray box set for the 26-episode Mahoraba anime series back on January 24th, 2018 release priced at 27,000 yen. That project was done as a six-disc set with five Blu-ray discs and a song collection CD. Extras include the clean opening and closings, promotional spots, the hourlong special, and the special ending sequences in clean form.
Last year, Discotek Media picked up the rights to the show with plans for a release in 2021. The subtitled-only release will be on Blu-ray but will be an upscaled release. With that in mind, the series has now found its way to Crunchyroll for streaming in its original Japanese language with English subtitles. Availability for it is decent as it’s open to viewers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa.
Directed by Shinichiro Kimura based on the manga by Akira Kojima, it features character designs from Masahiro Fujii and was animated by JC Staff.
The Japanese cast includes Ryoko Shiraishi as Ryuushi Shiratori, Satomi Arai as Chiyuri Midorikawa, Kozue Aoba, Nanako Kanazawa, Natsume Konno, and Saki Akasaka, Kenyuu Horiuchi as Jonny/Yukio Haibara, Masumi Asano as Megumi Momono, Mioko Fujiwara as Sayoko Kurosaki, Umi Tenjin as Asami Kurosaki, and Yui Horie as Tamami Chanohata.
Plot Concept: Shiratori Ryuushi is a young artist-in-training, about to start studying at a vocational school. Arriving at his new lodgings, Narutakisou, he finds himself the focus of attention for the collection of weirdos that inhabit the place. He also meets and falls for the landlady, Aoba Kozue, who seems to be both lovely and charming. However, Kozue is not what she seems to be… in fact, she’s more.
