2 min read
A retro science-fiction epic set in Victorian England, Steamboy features an inventor prodigy named Ray Steam, who receives a mysterious metal ball containing a new form of energy capable of powering an entire nation, the Steam Ball.

Sony Pictures has brought the Steamboy film from Katsuhiro Otomo back into the world of streaming as it’s been added to Amazon Prime. It’s available in its English dubbed form with closed-captioned English subtitles available for it. The film last saw a home video release back in 2018 in North Ameica with the DVD priced at $19.99 and the Blu-ray at $29.99. It looks like it’s keeping the same extras we’ve seen with previous editions of which there’s a fair amount:

  • INTERVIEW WITH KATSUHIRO OTOMO
  • MULTI-SCREEN LANDSCAPE STUDY
  • RE-VOICING STEAM BOY featurette
  • VOYAGE OF STEAM BOY
  • THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES (Clean ED feature)
  • PRODUCTION GALLERY
  • ANIMATION ONION SKINS

The film comes with both Japanese and English language tracks and includes subtitles for English, Arabic, and Czech.

Plot Concept: A retro science-fiction epic set in Victorian England, Steamboy features an inventor prodigy named Ray Steam, who receives a mysterious metal ball containing a new form of energy capable of powering an entire nation, the Steam Ball. Young Ray Steam must use the Steam Ball to fight evil, redeem his family, and save London from destruction.
