With two seasons of Baki anime released through Netflix so far and more coming, Sentai Filmworks has announced their pickup of the show. With home video release details to come, the distributor will be releasing it in its original Japanese language with English subtitles and will also be producing an all-new English language dub for it.

Check out our review of the second season.

The show is directed by Toshiki Hirano with Tatsuhiko Urahata handling the series composition. Shingo Ishikawa joins Fujio Suzuki with working on the character designs and TMS Entertainment is handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Nobunaga Shimazaki as Baki, which is a change from when Masami Kikuchi voiced him in the previous anime series. Additional casting includes Kenjiro Tsuda as Sikorsky, Takehito Koyasu as Doyle, Issei Futamata as Yanagi Ryūkō, Banjou Ginga as Dorian, Chafurin as Speck, Kenichi Ogata as Kaku Kaiō, Yoshiyuki Kouno as Son Kaiō, Yasuhiko Kawazu as Yō Kaiō, Daichi Endō as Mon Kaiō, Ryuuzo Hasuike as Jo Kaiō, Hiroaki Ishikawa as Mō Kaiō, Takanori Hoshino as Samwan Kaiō, Tomoaki Ikeda as Ri Kaiō, Satoshi Taki as Han Kaiō, Yutaka Aoyama as Juku Kaiō, Hideaki Tezuka as Shobun Ron, and Hiroki Yasumoto as Shunsei Kaku.

The original work, Grappler Baki, began back in 1991 and ran for 42 volumes through 1999 as done by Keisuke Itagaki. He then kicked off the next series in the property in 1999 with Baki: The Search of Our Strongest Hero, which ran until 2005 with a total of 31 volumes released. That was followed up at the end of 2005 with Grappler Baki: Son of Ogre, which ran until the summer of 2012 for a total of 37 volumes. That’s 110 volumes of the main series not including the spinoffs and side stories or the new series that populates it. That’s a lot of material.

Series concept: Five vicious convicts escape death row. They make their way to Tokyo intent on committing violent blood sport. Now they’re after Baki Hanma. With the onslaught looming, Baki must enlist Kaoru Hanayama, Doppo Orochi, Sea King Retsu and Goki Shibukawa, each with his own unique combat ability, if Baki wants to live to brawl another day.
