With Discotek Media having picking up pretty much all of the City Hunter catalog previously, they’ve been moving into releasing the TV side of things. But they’re also working on bringing the show out to more people to check it out in hopes of encouraging them to wanting to own it – since streaming is a fickle thing. RetroCrush previously added the first 51 episodes of the series in its original Japanese language with English subtitles onto its service to be checked out along with the second season of 63 episodes.
Now, the streaming service has added the third season in their pulldown at the top of the episode list, which comes in at 13 episodes in the same format, as well as the City Hunter ’91 series which is also 13 episodes.
Property concept: This “sweeper” keeps the scum off the streets of Shinjuku…
Ryo Saeba, the legendary City Hunter, is a first-class sweeper for hire, taking on jobs from protecting beautiful women to taking out bad guys permanently. He can be a private detective or hitman, whatever the case calls for, and it often requires the use of his superhuman marksmanship.
But even so, Ryo can’t do it alone. His partner is Kaori Makimura the younger sister of his murdered best friend. Kaori serves as his assistant, while also protecting their attractive clients from Ryo’s “mokkori” advances with her trusty supply of 100-ton hammers. Though they always appear to be at each other’s throats, the partners trust each other implicitly when the chips are down, and together they’ve solved various tough cases.
