“We All Went Camping Together”
What They Say:
Renge, Natsumi, Komari, and former big-city-girl Hotaru live a quiet life in the Japanese countryside, but things get a lot more exciting when newcomer Akane Shinoda moves into the house next door to the Koshigaya family!

Tomorrow is a special day! Does Renge know what tomorrow is? She states that tomorrow is Wednesday. She’s technically not wrong. Everyone is actually going camping tomorrow. Gasp! Renge forgot! But she’s totally stoked about it. They need to get ready! Kazuho already prepared everything. I guess all Renge has to prepare is her heart and mind, haha. The next day, everyone arrives at the campground. First things first, they’ve got to build the tent. Everyone pitches in. Well, Natsumi and Renge do fool around a bit but they eventually help. Once they’re finished, everyone does their own thing until sundown. Komari, Hotaru, and Renge play some volleyball. Natsumi and Suguru go fishing. Kazuho gets drunk. When sundown arrives, they have a delicious barbecue.
At night, Kazuho is passed out. I’m not surprised after all of the beer she chugged down! Renge thinks about going to sleep but Natsumi teases her. She was planning on catching rhinoceros beetles with a brown sugar syrup bottle. Renge wants to join! Natsumi says it’s a little too early for that right now. The girls decide to play card games for a while. Eventually, Renge reminds Natsumi about the rhinoceros beetles. Oh, yeah! She almost forgot and admits that she lied earlier about it being too early. She just didn’t want to walk around while she was full. Anyway, Natsumi and Renge go on a late-night rhinoceros beetle adventure. Kazuho wakes up and learns that those two went into the woods alone. It’s dangerous for two kids to be walking around alone at night. She’ll go check on them. Is she going to be okay? She assures Komari and Hotaru that everything is going to be okay. I don’t know about this.
Kazuho wobbles around drunkenly and can barely stand. She decides it’s better if she just crawls. Eventually, she catches up to Renge and grabs her by the leg. This scares the bejesus out of her and she runs away. I don’t blame her. Despite the scary incident, Natsumi and Renge push on. They find a good tree and start placing the brown sugar on the trunk. And then they turn around and come face-to-face a ghost! It’s actually a dirtied Kazuho with her hair down. She does look like a ghost though. Naturally, the girls run away. They run all the way back to the tent and tell the others that they saw a ghost. Komari says it was probably Kazuho. In fact, she can hear her coming back! Komari greets Kazuho and turns white the moment she sees her appearance. She passes out a second later. Poor Komari.
Summer vacation is almost over. Natsumi and Hikage haven’t done any of their homework! Gosh, why do they have so much homework!? It’s not fair! What kind of teacher would do that!? Natsumi is looking at you, Kazu-nee! She suggests that they boycott their homework. Hikage isn’t sure about that. They should just finish it. Lame! As you can probably guess, Natsumi convinces Hikage to join her boycott. In a bold move, they decide to play video games in front of Kazuho and Renge. Renge announces that she finished her homework and gets praised by Kazuho. At least someone in this house isn’t a slacker! Natsumi disappears to the bathroom leaving Renge to play video games with Hikage. She sure is taking a while though. Hikage goes to check on her and finds out that she’s doing her homework! Hey, that’s not fair! They’re supposed to be boycotting together. But she feels guilty now! In the end, both girls go so hardcore on finishing their homework that they pass out. I hope they managed to finish it. The episode ends with Renge sketching Natsumi and Hikage sleeping. By the way, the sketch is adorable.
Cute girls went camping. What is this, Laid-Back Camp!? Could you imagine a crossover episode between those two shows? I don’t think the world is ready for that yet. Too much chill. Anyway, it was certainly a camping trip they’ll never forget thanks to Kazu-nee scaring the crap out of the girls. They should probably stop letting her drink so much booze. It was funny seeing her wobbling around in a drunken stupor though. And hey, she does make a pretty scary ghost. The Natsumi and Hikage skit was great. It was hilarious how guilty they felt about boycotting their homework after Renge proudly announced that she finished hers while they were playing games. So innocent! I would have felt guilty, too. At least they managed to finish it…I think.
