David Benioff and D.B. Weiss Sets ‘The Overstory’ For Netflix

1 min read

Netflix previously set up an expansive deal with Game of Thrones folks David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and one of the first projects to go forward as part of their development slate is an adaptation of the Richard Powers The Overstory. Both will serve as executive producers on the project along with Hugh Jackman. There’s potential for Jackman to star in it if it gets developed enough and goes into production.

The script for the pilot comes from Richard Robbins and Bernadette Caulfield, both of whom will serve as executive producers on the project.

The novel was published in 2018 and won the Pulitzer in 2019.

Plot Concept: Richard Powers’s twelfth novel unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fables that range from antebellum New York to the late twentieth-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. There is a world alongside ours—vast, slow, interconnected, resourceful, magnificently inventive, and almost invisible to us. This is the story of a handful of people who learn how to see that world and who are drawn up into its unfolding catastrophe.
