A new anime adaptation is in the works as we learned back in January 2020 that Mogusu’s manga series Koi to Yobu ni wa Kimochi Warui has gotten the nod. Translating as It’s Disgusting To Call This Love, the series was recently scheduled for a spring 2021 debut in April. Now, the official site has rolled out a new promotional video that shows off more of the style of the series while also teasing the theme songs for it.
Naomi Nakayama is directing it based on the scripts from Yuuko Kakihara. Taku Yamada is serving as the assistant director while Mariko Fujita is working on the character designs and serving as the chief animation director with Nomad handling the production.
Now, the official site has updated with both a new key visual below and a new promo and has updated some other details. Confirming its April 2021 debut, the official site revealed that it’s streaming in Japan will be an Amazon Prime exclusive but will broadcast on multiple networks. Additionally, we also got the cast revealed with:
- Yurie Kozakai as Ichika Arima
- Toshiyuki Toyonaga as Ryo Amakusa
- Rena Hasegawa as Rio Amakusa
- Junya Enoki as Kai Tamaru
- Kana Hanazawa as Arie Matsushima
- Ryohei Kimura as Masuda
The manga began in 2016 on the comic Pool site and saw book publishing through Ichijinsha, which has seven volumes out as of this week. The announcement had the original creator releasing the new illustration key visual to the right.
The series features the opening theme song “Monokuro City” by Ace Collection and the ending them “Rinaria” performed by MaRuRi to Ryuga.
Plot Concept: The story follows the relationship between Ryō Amakusa, a sex-crazed but highly eligible bachelor with a wandering eye for women, and Ichika Arima, an ordinary otaku high school girl who is close friends with Ryō’s little sister Rio. Ryō and Ichika meet by chance one day, but Ryō’s direct approach — asking Ichika for a kiss and a date on the same day they meet — is a complete turn-off for Ichika. Despite Ichika’s disgusted reaction (or arguably because of it), Ryō is convinced that she is the one.
