We learned back in October 2020 that the Tsukimichi -Moonlit Fantasy- novel series from Kei Azumi is next up on the adaptation front as the release of a new volume at the time confirmed that a TV adaptation is in the works. It’s been quiet since then but now Nippon TV has announced that Crunchyroll will be handling the series worldwide outside of Asia. Crunchyroll itself will make its reveals later with firmer details as they have them and as the show gets closer as it’s only scheduled so far for “this year” with nothing more detailed yet. With Asian distribution also set, the series is scheduled for distribution in more the 200 countries and territories at this point.

The series has Shinji Ihara set to direct it based on the scripts coming from Kenta Ihara. Yuki Suzuki is adapting the character designs with C2C handling the animation production side.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Natsuki Hanae as Makoto
  • Ayane Sakura as Tomoe
  • Akari Kitō as Mio

Check out the character designs below.

The novel series began in 2012 from Kei Azumi and has fifteen volumes so far.

Plot Concept: Makoto Misumi is just an ordinary high school student living a regular life, but all of a sudden gets summoned to the other world to become a “hero.” The goddess of the other world, however, insults him for being different and strips his “hero” title, before casting him off to the wilderness at the edge of the world. As he wanders the wilderness, Makoto encounters dragons, spiders, orcs, dwarves, and all sorts of non-human tribes. Because Makoto comes from a different world, he is able to unleash unimaginable magical powers and combat skills. But just how will he handle his encounters with various species and survive in his new environment. In this fantasy, Makoto tries to transform the other world into a better place despite the humans and gods having turned their backs on him.
