The saving grace here is the artwork but that can't save the book as a whole.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
This storyline concludes with this issue, bringing things full circle while leaving a whole lot open for more to be explored later in a classic way. Geoffrey Thorne hasn’t won me over with this storyline as it felt a bit weirdly rushed and awkward early on and is trying to get too much done too quickly with a lot of pieces that aren’t too familiar, especially for more casual readers. The artwork on it from ChrisCross and Jordi Tarragona was pretty decent overall but what it was bringing to life didn’t have a strong weight in the story so it felt a little ill-defined in some ways in trying to figure out what it was attempting to accomplish. But it looked great in general and there were some really slick designs.

The premise for this is basic third-act material in that we get the big fight and challenge, one where Impala is fighting on the outside and really struggling. Mist does send along another to help, Olympian Two? Or just Olympian? I don’t know the character at all so it never felt like they were formally named well during it. They’re not able to do a whole lot overall because they’re mostly trying to hold down the transformed body of Professor Krieg as taken over by this godling while Vixen is inside Yemaya trying to stop her from calling down more of her kind and inhabiting their bodies.

What we get from the fight inside is two-fold. One is that Vixen is apparently a godkin and is someone who is very special to the gods, something that even Mist seemingly knows about but doesn’t wnt to spill on at the moment. Yemaya is disappointed to say the least that she can’t sway over Vixen and is frustrated by the pushback that she’s getting since it’s putting her and Nyame in danger. The focus is on Yemaya going on about all of this while Vixen attempts to find a creature that she can use in order to stop her. That it’s a tardigrade is no surprise as that’s the go-to creature these days for dealing with such things in being an indestructible creature. That and the wrap up are all pretty simple and expected things with no real revelations or truths coming about it, and just a little offhanded flirtiness.

In Summary:
Truth & Justice is a title with potential but it started with a weak title and didn’t have what it needed in order to go the distance. The script here was a bit clunky at the start and didn’t go anywhere than expected places for the next two issues and was just kind of there. The artwork was the saving grace but that can go only so far when the story doesn’t connect or feel like it’s fleshed out properly. I’m all for a lot more Vixen stories but this particular incarnation of her didn’t do much for me and felt like it didn’t quite get what makes her who she is.
