“It Ain’t Dumb”
What They Say:
After growing up in Tokyo, high school student Jin Kaito moves to Nagoya where he meets Yatogame Monaka, a fellow student who puts her Nagoya dialect on full display. With her cat-like appearance and unvarnished Nagoya dialect, Yatogame won’t open up to him at all. The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
With the series getting its still surprising third season underway previously, this episode kicks off with the gang enjoying some air conditioning. That doesn’t last though as Yatogame is melting under the pressure of bad grades and needs help from Jin in order to survive her school year. We see him quizzing her to get a handle on what she knows and is capable of but that’s just the start of a downhill series of events as Yatogame’s skills tend to not focus on school smarts. But as they get into a new round of things with a little external help, she starts really showing off while waiting for you to see how the gimmick ends badly.
In Summary:
It’s amusing seeing a smart Yatogame as she’s confident and straightforward here, not up to her usual shenanigans to distract and cause problems with. But she’s still loud and out there as she pushes things until Jin figures out the right way to motivate her, which is pretty comical and pretty on track for her – and him with the fallout that he has to deal with.
