Alan Tudyk Not Cast For 1st ‘Andor’ Disney+ Season

One of my more anticipated series that’s coming from the Star Wars side for Disney+ is the Andor series. Yes, anticipated and excited about because it steps into the period between the first two trilogies and offers up the chance for espionage, politics, and intrigue in ways that should work well. So when these idiots on YouTube go on about “nobody even wants this show,” you can smack ’em with my name.

The folks at Collider have a new interview up with Alan Tudyk, who played K-2S0 in the Rogue One film, and he’s noted that though a lot of places (including us) listed him as being a part of the project, he isn’t as it takes place further back than when the two characters worked together. That said, he’s hoping that they get to work together in future seasons – before Tudyk gets too old for the part.

“They’re shooting it right now, I’m not in it. But, if it stays on the air, stories keep getting told, I’ll end up in there,” said Tudyk. “I’m going to be in the show. It’s just that the story that Tony [Gilroy] is telling doesn’t involve K-2SO until later on… I can’t be too specific, but I can definitely say that I’m not going to be in the first season.”

“I’m [in] all these announcements for the show,” recalled Tudyk. “And I had suggested at D23 when we announced in the show, that it be called K2 Fast K2 Furious: The Cassian Andor Series and, um, that’s not happening, it’s called Andor!”

“I do know this: I have to be on stilts for it, because the character is 7’1″, and I’m not one of those guys that says, ‘somebody else do the motion capture, and I’ll voice it later,’” added Tudyk. “I’ll have to do the motion capture, and I turn 50 in March. So I hope they get to it soon, because I’m not going to be on stilts in, like, five years. I’m not doing it!”

With Tony Gilroy serving as the showrunner and having worked on Rogue One, the cast includes Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, Genevieve O’Reilly as Mon Mothma, Denis Gough, Stellan Skarsgard, Adria Ajorna, and Kyle Soller having joined the project in undetermined roles.

One thing to remember is that based on past reveals, Cassian’s parents were Separatists, which is a side that in the live-action side hasn’t been explored much and can provide for a distinctly different view than what we usually get.

Marvel Comics previously produced a special for the character and K2-SO (who we’re hoping will be a big part of this) and this project is definitely what I’m hoping for when it comes to original live-action TV projects for the property. One of the themes of the Rogue One film involved Andor talking about how he’d been fighting for so long and done so many dark things in order to help the growing Rebellion. The chance to explore some of that is definitely exciting, much as it was to get the backstory we did in the Catalyst novel for the Rogue One film that explored Jyn’s parents and the nature of how the Empire started strip-mining worlds after the end of the prequels.

Check out our review of the Rogue One film.

Plot Concept: The series will follow the adventures of rebel spy Cassian Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One.
