The Review
Content (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Following another meta-contextual defeat via boardgame, Mash steps out for a breather. Rather than mull over the results, Mash’s true goal was to find a quiet place for him to enjoy a specialty creampuff. But his mad dash into the forest puts him in proximity of the showdown between Margarette Macaron and Rayne Ames. Mash listens in to their pre-battle dialogue.

Rayne has already deduced that Orter put Margarette up to the task of eliminating Mash. While he understands the disposition against non-magic users, especially within Easton Academy, Rayne knows that Mash is just built different. Despite the societal pressure forced onto non-magic users, Mash is actively fighting to change those cultural norms.

But Margarette could care less about righteous ideologies. He was here to fight. Rayne may have revealed a third line, but even against raw magical power, Margarette was confident in his abilities. He unleashes a booming orchestral blast directly at Rayne. But the true power of a third line was yet to be revealed. We cut back to Naray Shawn and Headmaster Wahlberg for further details. Wahlberg states that three lines signifies one chosen by the gods. The influence of that blessing is not merely a raw power boost – it also allows the user to unlock a wand’s true form. Rayne repels Margarette’s attack and summons the power of Ares, the God of War. With a single swipe, Rayne sends a menacing aura of black magic hurdling toward Margarette.

In Summary:
Mashle really honed-in on its shonen sensibilities this week. But at this point, it’s unfair to judge Mashle purely on its comedic elements. The magic system continues to expand in interesting ways and Komoto’s art was in top-form all chapter long.
