HBO Max Sets New Showrunner For ‘The Batman’ Companion TV Series

2 min read

We learned back in July 2020 that HBO Max has a companion TV series to the feature film The Batman that Matt Reeves is directing in the works. Reeves is involved in the series and is working with Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter who is set to write the show. Reeves recently set an overall deal with Warner Bros. for projects and this is the first one.

Unfortunately, Terence Winter departed back in November 2020 from the project over creative differences and things have slowed down due to the pandemic and other issues. Now, Deadline is reporting that Joe Barton is taking over the showrunning duties for the series and getting things rolling there. Barton’s most recently known for his work as the creator behind Giri/Haji on Netflix.

Warner Bros. is working a similar situation with the Dune film where a companion series – Dune: Sisterhood – will stream on HBO Max as well.

Plot Concept: The series will build upon the film’s examination of the anatomy of corruption in Gotham City, launching a new Batman universe across multiple platforms. The series will extend the world established in the movie and further explore the myriad complex characters of Gotham.
