The reveal in August 2019 that Marvel Studios will be bringing a Moon Knight series to the Disney+ service was one of the bigger pieces of news that got me excited. Marvel Studios revealed back in November that Jeremy Slater had boarded the project as the showrunner for it. While Slater had a hand in the 2015 Fantastic Four film script as a co-writer and was the writer on Death Note for Netflix, he most recently served as the developer for Umbrella Academy and wrote the script for the pilot episode, shaping the run going forward.
We’d heard in October 2020 that Oscar Isaac was being courted for the role and had entered some level of negotiations but we haven’t heard anything since. We got some interesting news last week when the cinematographer for the show, Gregory Middleton, let loose with a new Instagram update while in Hungary where he talks about being involved in the show and confirms Oscar Isaac’s role in the show.
Now, a new update has come down from THR about some of the additional directors on the project. We knew that Mohamed Diab previously joined the show to direct the project and is setting the tone for it, but others are working on some of the later episodes as he’s not directing the entire run. It looks like Justin Benson of The Enldess is on board and Aaron Moorhead of Synchronic as well.
The character has a complicated history but check out the concept of the 2016 series to get an idea of a possible avenue to explore to bring it to life.
Plot concept: For years, Marc Spector has defended New York City as the masked vigilante Moon Knight. Calling upon the powers of the ancient Egyptian God Khonshu, he has kept the city safe from street gangs and supernatural forces alike. Or has he? Waking up in an insane asylum will shake anyone’s confidence. But it can’t be true, can it? His mind is full of identities and he no longer knows which is real. His thoughts are clouded and he has no idea what to believe. If he calls to Khonshu, he believes he will receive an answer. But is this a sign he still clings to his sanity, or has it slipped from him completely?
I was seven when I bought my first Marvel comic, and my life was changed on the spot. It’s no exaggeration to say that joining the MCU is the single greatest honor of my career. I’m thrilled and terrified and deliriously happy.

And while I won’t be able tell you anything in regards to story or casting, I *can* tell that you we’ve assembled a room full of brilliant writers who truly love this character, and we’re all hard at work crafting something special for you.
