The fall 2020 anime series Taiso Samurai, or Gymnastics Samurai, is getting its home video releases handled by Aniplex Japan in its home country. The distributor has opted to bring out this eleven-episode series as a single box set with separate DVD and Blku-ray editions. It’ll arrive on March 17th, 2021 priced at 28,000 yen on DVD and 32,000 yen on Blu-ray. With that coming in a couple of months, we now have our first taste of how it’s going to look with the cover artwork released.

The sets come with a bonus third disc that has the opening theme song with a couple of versions and the full soundtrack. We also get a booklet included and the special program that aired prior to the start of the series. The rest of the extras include promos, commercials, and so forth.

The series is directed by Hisatoshi Shimizu based on the scripts supervised by Shigure Murakoshi. Kasumi Fukagawa is handling the character designs and obviously MAPPA is animating it. It’s like a Zombie Land Saga staff reunion.

The Japanese cast includes Daisuke Namikawa as Shōtarō Aragaki, Kensho Ono as Leonardo, Yuuki Kaji as Tetsuo Minamino, Kenyuu Horiuchi as Noriyuki Amakusa, Rina Honnizumi as Rei Aragaki, Atsuko Tanaka as Mari Aragaki, Kotono Mitsuishi as Tomoyo Aragaki, Kappei Yamaguchi as Bigbird Aragaki, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Tomoki Takizawa, Nana Mizuki as Ayu, Daisuke Hirakawa as Naohiko Nakanomori, Kaito Ishikawa as Atsushi Dōjima, Daisuke Ono as Shige Nishikiori, Kengo Kawanishi as Hiro Okamachi, Hiroshi Kamiya as Ryū Ryūshō, Minami Tanaka as Kitty Chan, and Rikiya Koyama as Britney.

Plot Concept: The story takes place in 2002, in the dark ages of Japan’s national men’s gymnastics team. Jotaro Aragaki, former member of the national team, had given his whole life for gymnastics and was fighting against his age and physical strength.

However, things change when one day, as he was practicing like usual, he is told by his coach, Amakusa, to start thinking of his next career. Jotaro struggles, but his daughter, Rei, is always there by his side. But with one fateful encounter, the Aragakis’ lives changes drastically.
