Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten BEAST from the December 2020 installment, The Beauties of the Slumbering Woods is a ten-page story from creator Hinasaki Yo, who has about three dozen other works on the service. Thankfully, they’ve done a couple of more amusing chapters since then and this one leans into the silly side nicely as we get some casino time with a bunny girl. Bunny girls will always be fun to watch but I’ll always remember the stories my parents told of going to the Playboy Club in the 60s and 70s and how strict the rules were when it came to touching the bunny girls. People would be tossed into the street so fast.
The story for this introduces us to Doujima as he’s at the casino and essentially losing all of his money after a virtual currency thing went south. His last ditch effort to fix things didn’t go well and now he’s almost weeping on the floor of the casino from the significant loss. That’s when the bunny girl tries to help, as she realized she used to go to elementary school with him and had pet duty with him. Kanna’s happy to see him again since she had a childhood crush on him and she’s certainly grown up and filled out over the years in all the right ways. As she and Doujima talks, he realizes she hasn’t really grown up in some other ways and is kind of ditzy in his view but she’s just so goodnatured and happily outgoing that it doesn’t fit his current mood in the slightest.
What she does do is offer him a special drink and a chance to recover himself in a special suite that’s being renovated during the day. He realizes that the drink, meant to help his headache, is actually designed to arouse him ends up being something that he leans into with her and she’s really quite amenable to it all. It’s cute in that kind of innocent way but particularly so as they get down to the intimacy as he discovers that this is her first time. It’s a slightly shorter story with setup on the frontend and some epilogue material so this all feels a little cut short and faster than it should be, but with her wearing the costume for all of it and all-in on enjoying everything, it has a kind of utterly charming and goofy quality that sets up a potentially weirdly adorable relationship.
In Summary
Bunny My Love is an absolute delight in a lot of ways and most especially with the giant-sized bunny that Kanna has as a pet. It just makes the whole thing even sillier and says so much about her. While there are problematic pieces to some of it when it comes to it being Kanna’s first time in how it’s presented, it’s easy to move past that and just enjoy the innocence and the absolutely gorgeous artwork that we get here. It’s just charming as heck and made for some bright smile moments.
