We learned last fall that another light novel series had been slated for an anime adaptation with Suppose a Kid From the Last Dungeon Boonies Moved to a Starter Town. Originally set for an October 2020 premiere, the show was previously delayed to a January 2021 debut. Funimation previously revealed their pickup of it for the Winter 2021 season as we saw a lot of fall 2020 shows picked up by Funimation with announcements this past summer when most of them were originally supposed to air as well.
With a confirmed a January 4th, 2021 premiere for the show set, one more promo has landed for this series and this one gives us a taste of the opening theme song with it so that it all gels together just right..
The show will be directed by migmi with Deko Akao handling the scripts. Makoto Iino is on board handling the character designs while LIDEN FILMS is working the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes Yumiri Hanamori as Lloyd, Ai Kayano as Marie, Natsumi Hioka as Alka, Madoka Asahina as Selen, Minami Tsuda as Riho, Miku Itō as Phyllo, Seiichirō Yamashita as Alan, Sōma Saitō as Shōma, Satoshi Hino as Meltfan, and M.A.O as Colin.
The light novel series comes from Toshio Satō and illustration Nao Watanuki which began in 2017 and has seven volumes out as of the announcement in October 2019. A manga adaptation is also ongoing in Japan. Yen Press is releasing both in English.
Plot Concept: Lloyd is a novice adventurer whose dream is to discover “true strength” in the capital he’s always admired, despite growing up with neighbors who always considered him weak. The story starts with him departing his hometown, which just so happens to be located right next to…one of the most dangerous dungeons in the world?! Lloyd may think of himself as powerless, but when he goes to the city that serves as the starter town for adventurers, the difference between him and everyone else couldn’t be starker!
