It was positively shocking back in June 2020 when we learned that a new Battle Athletes project was getting underway. Way back in the late 90s when Pioneer was getting their original anime line going and coming up with titles after Tenchi Muyo, one of them was the Battle Athletes OVA series that leads into the Battle Athletes Victory TV series that re-imagined the OVA series. And that TV series, if I recall, was one of the first TV series to get DVD release – something we had to fight for back then because distributors were looking for just OVAs and movies to put on the format.

The official site has updated with more on the Battle Athletes Daiundōkai ReSTART anime that was previously set for a spring 2021 debut in April. The latest is that Nanaka Suwa is on board to perform the theme song for it with “Cobalt no Kodo,” which has OSTER project writing it, arranging it, and scoring it.

The staff has been set with Noriyoshi Sasaki directing it based on the scripts from Yohei Kashii. Kazunori Haruyama is handling the character designs while studio Seven is handling the animation production.

The cast was also revealed with:

  • Sumire Morohoshi as Kanata Akehoshi
  • Yui Ishikawa as Eva Garenstein
  • Miyu Tomita as Shelley Wong

The prologue launched on Comic Ruelle & Comic Jardin in June and has been ongoing since.

Check out the official site and Twitter.

Plot Concept: In the science-fiction sports action story set in the year 5100, elite athletes from around the solar system compete to become Cosmic Beauty, the champion of a huge athletic tournament. The prologue chapter includes images of the new competitors as well as Lahrri Feldnunt, Kris Christopher, and Akari Kanzaki, Cosmic Beauties of 100 years ago.
