Funimation Adds ‘Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki’ For Winter 2021 Anime Lineup

A new anime adaptation previously got the green light as the Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki manga from Yuki Yaku was announced as in the works last October. The Japanese side just updated with a new promotional video below and confirmation of a January 8th, 2021 debut for it and now Funimation is stepping in to confirm their streaming involvement with it.

Funimation will stream the series in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Ireland; on AnimeLab in Australia and New Zealand; and on Wakanim in France, Germany and Scandinavia.

Shinsuke Yanagi is directing it based on the scripts overseen by Fumihiko Shimo. Akane Yano is working on the character designs with Project No. 9 handling the animation production.

The drama CD cast will be reprising their roles for the show with:

  • Gen Sato as Fumiya Tomozaki
  • Hisako Kanemoto as Aoi Hinami
  • Ikumi Hasegawa as Manami Nanami
  • Ai Kayano as Fūka Kikuchi
  • Ryōko Maekawa as Hanabi Natsubayashi
  • Nene Hieda as Yuzu Izumi
  • Nobunaga Shimazaki as Takahiro Mizusawa
  • Nobuhiko Okamoto as Nakamura
  • Shuntarō Mizuno as Takei

The light novel series, which is being released in English by Yen Press, comes from Yuki Yaku and began in 2016 and has eight volumes out as of this month.

The opening theme song is “Jinsei Easy?” by DIALOGUE+ while the ending theme song “Ayafuwa Asterisk” is also performed by them.

Plot Concept: Tomozaki is one of the best gamers in Japan, and in his opinion, the game of real life is one of the worst. No clear-cut rules for success, horribly balanced, and nothing makes sense. But then he meets a gamer who’s just as good as him, and she offers to teach him a few exploits…
