Japanese ‘Akudama Drive’ Anime Home Video Release Previews Radio Drama

The fall 2020 anime adaptation of the Akudama Drive property from Too Kyo Games and Studio Pierrot has now revealed its home video release plans. The twelve-episode series is being done as limited editions for both DVD and Blu-ray editions beginning December 25th, 2020. The DVDs are priced at 6,800 yen each while the Blu-ray releases are priced at 7,800 yen each.

With the set coming up in a few weeks, the official site has dropped a 90-second preview of the Bonus CD that’s going under the name “Akudama Radio Business Trip Version” for it. It’s a brief bit that gives us a chance to listen to Yuichiro Umehara, Shunsuke Takeuchi, and Subaru Kimura.

The series is directed by Tomohiro Taguchi with Yoshifumi Sasahara as the assistant director. Norimitsu Kaiho is handling the scripts while Cindy H. Yamauchi is working on adapting Rui Komatsuzaki’s designs. Studio Pierrot is handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Tomoyo Kurosawa as Ordinary Person (Ippanjin), Yuichiro Umehara as Courier (Hakobiya), Shunsuke Takeuchi as Brawler (Kenkaya), Shun Horie as Hacker, Megumi Ogata as Doctor (Isha), Subaru Kimura as Hoodlum (Chinpira), Takahiro Sakurai as Cutthroat (Satsujinki), Akio Ohtsuka as Capital Punishment Division’s Instructor, Yumiri Hanamori as Capital Punishment Division’s Student, Yoshiko Sakakibara as Boss, and Maaya Uchida as Black Cat.

SPARK!!SOUND!!SHOW!! are handling the opening theme song with “Steal!!” while the four-member male vocal unit Urashimasakatasen  are contributing the ending theme song “Ready.”

Plot Concept: Long ago the “Kantō” and “Kansei” countries had a war that divided the world. But at the end of the war, Kansei became a vassal to Kantō. However, Kansei’s government and police force declined, and crime became rampant. The criminals are called “Akudama.”
