Bandai Namco back in September 2019 announced a new YouTube Originals anime series set to launch in December with Obsolete. The first six episodes came out in early December 2019 as part of the Youtube Originals run as a premium release brought out at once while everyone else got it weekly. Now, the first series – which has its home video release coming up with dubbed episodes included – has had those episode added to the streaming side as well. And this comes just before the start of the second series.

The six episode Obsolete II run will be made available all at once on December 1st, 2021 for Youtube Premium users while free users get a new episode weekly starting from that date. Check out the new trailer below.

The series comes from writer Gen Urobuchi where he’s handling the scripts for it with Hiroki Yamada directing it at studio Buemon.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Masahiko Tanaka as Bowman of the U.S. Marine Corps
  • Toshiyuki Morikawa as Miyajima of the U.S. Marine Corps
  • Jin Yamanoi as Loewner of the U.S. Marine Corps
  • Wataru Takagi as Fernando of the U.S. Marine Corps
  • Ryūzaburō Ōtomo as Zahir of the Outcast Brigade

Plot concept: The “real robot” anime is set on Earth in an alternate timeline with 2.55-meter-tall (about 8.4-foot-tall) neurally operated mecha known as Exoframes (Enhanced Xenobiological Organic FRAMEs, seen below). The Exoframe technology originated from aliens who made contact with humanity in 2014, and asked to trade one ton of limestone in exchange for one Exoframe. Cheaper than aircraft, tanks, or firearms, and usable by anyone, Exoframe usage easily spread throughout the world.
