With Crunchyroll having been involved with the In/Spectre series in co-production, it’s been quiet since the show ended beyond Anime Limited picking up the UK home video rights. That changed this morning as it was announced that a second season is in the works for it. The news came with a key visual above and a promo below that highlights the events of the first season. No production information or dates were revealed regarding this sequel to the winter 2020 anime series.

Keiji Gotoh is directing based on the scripts by Noboru Takagi. Takatoshi Honda is on board with the character designs and Brain’s Base is handling the animation production.

The manga series is known as Kyoukou Suiri in Japan and comes from Kyo Shirodaira with artwork by Chasiba Katase. Shirodaira should certainly be a familiar name to Western audiences as he was behind SpiralRecord of a Fallen Vampire and Blast of Tempest. This series is Katase’s first known published work. In/Spectre began publication in Japan in 2015 as serialized in Shounen Magazine R with nine volumes published so far and Kodansha Comics publishing it in English.

The Japanese cast so far includes Akari Kito as Kotoko Iwanaga, Mamoru Miyano as Kuro Sakuragawa, Misato Fukuen as Saki Yumihara, Sumire Uesaka as Karin Nanase, Kenji Hamada as Shinichi Terada.

The English cast includes Lizzie Freeman as Kotoko Iwanaga, Brandon Winckler as Kuro Sakuragawa, Lauren Landa as Saki Yumihara, Kayli Mills as Karin Nanase, and Cristina Vee as Rikka Sakuragawa.

Plot Concept: The 17-year-old Kotoko has a unique situation. When she was a child, she was kidnapped by spirits called yōkai, and returned missing one leg and one eye. Since then, she has been able to communicate with otherworldly forces, both benevolent and dangerous. Kotoko is alone in her power until she learns that the crush she’s watched from afar, Kurō, has had his own encounter with yōkai! As if being touched by the supernatural wasn’t enough, Kurō’s personal life is also in shambles. With their shared experiences and understanding, Kotoko and Kurō form a partnership to deal with mysteries, from ancient demons to the ghost of an idol. But for a girl who’s used to dealing with spirits, winning love might prove to be the bigger challenge!
