Earlier this month saw the departure of Johnny Depp when it came to the four-film planned work for Fantastic Beasts after appearing as the villain in the second one. That news came after a bad loss for Depp in the UK court system over allegations of being a “wife beater,” according to Deadline. At the time, we had word that Warner Bros. was moving fast to keep production on rrack for the next installment as Mads Mikkelsen is in talks to join the franchise for the final two films and is at the top of the list of candidates wanted for the role of Grindlewald.
Now, it’s been confirmed that he is definitely stepping into the role – even as he cautioned about getting excited for such things recently – and is boarding the already in-production project that hadn’t covered anything with the character yet.
The third film is set for a summer 2022 release date following various COVID-19 related distribution changes but the film is currently in production with Eddie Redmayne and Jude Law among others filming.
Plot concept: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj world.
