With an OAD that came out with the twelfth volume of Haro Aso’s manga series Alice in Borderland back in 2014, we learned in August 2019 that a live-action adaptation was given the green-light by Netflix Japan. At the time, we knew that it’ll star Kento Yamazaki as Ryohei and Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi and that the series has set Shinsuke Sato to direct based on the scripts by Yasuko Kuramitus that Sato is also working on with.
We’ve had a few different trailers for the show out of Netflix proper since the fall but as we’re closing in on the start of the series they’re now starting to bring out a bit more, reinforcing their backing of the project. This latest one is a 90-second clip from the series where things get pretty intense briefly.
The manga wrapped up in 2016 with eighteen volumes and had some spinoff material along the way.

Plot concept: Alice Ryouhei will leave high school soon, but he’s trying to avoid thinking about his future. Late one night, when he’s hanging out with his tough friend Karube and his silly, girl-crazy friend Chota, they see fireworks. After one blindingly bright explosion, they find themselves waking up in a different world. In this ‘Borderland,’ people are forced to either participate in potentially deadly games or simply die. Will Chota, Karube, and Ryouhei be able to survive this dangerous new world, and is there a way they can get back to their original lives?
