Is the Order a Rabbit? BLOOM Season 3 Episode 5

After a couple of episodes that hinted at the future and perhaps shaded an important change to come, we return just to simple silliness.

After spending two episodes showing Chino pondering the road ahead (the road ahead being high school), we have a return to the usual: cute, silly, quirky fun. The episode neatly divides into two parts: in the first half, Chiya is worried about the upcoming school marathon. She’s never been the most athletic (except for her Jedi-like reflexes that allow her to avoid being hit by any objects thrown even remotely near her, as if she saw them coming) and the stamina and endurance required of a marathon are a bit beyond her. So, worried about being able to keep up with the seemingly more athletic Cocoa, Chiya asks Rize to train her. Rize, of course, jogs regularly at the crack of dawn and with some gently tough training (I know, that sounds odd, but just accept it), Chiya is in good shape during the marathon. Of course, Cocoa turns out the be the one lagging behind, but that was to be expected.

In the second half, Aoyama Blue Mountain (real name: Midori Aoyama) has a day off. So, she decides to regress into childhood and plays a game of hide-and-seek with her editor Rin Mate. Not just one on one, as the main girls join each side: Cocoa and Chiya helping Aoyama, Rize and Chino aiding Rin. It’s all incredibly silly.

And maybe that is all we need, some silly fun. The old reliable gags make their appearances: Aoyama constantly giving Rin the slip; Chino uses an underhanded method to capture Cocoa (completely lampshaded by Aoyama); bunnies, bunnies, and more bunnies (we see a Rabbit Carousel). As I have said before, but wind up repeating myself often, this show is pretty much the equivalent of cotton candy. It’s light, it’s fluffy, it’s really, really sweet and it’s pretty, like clouds. It is not heavy on substance, but if you are looking for that, you have many other options to choose from.

In Summary:
Chiya is worried about her performance in the upcoming school marathon, so she trains with Rize to get up to speed. Then, Aoyama the novelist has a day off, so what better than to play a game of hide-and-seek with her editor and the girls? Does that all sound like fluff? It is, but it’s fun and sweet and it should bring a smile to the lips.
