With its release in theaters in Japan back in February 2019, the City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes anime film made a relatively quick jump to North American shores. Discotek Media brought it out back with May 26th, 2020 release date for the film on Blu-ray where it’ll be priced at $24.95. Now, they’ve brought the film to Amazon Prime where members can watch it for free or rent it for $2.99 or purchase it in HD for $9.99.

Check out our review of the film.

The film has Kenji Kodama directing it after working on past films in the franchise with the screenplay by Yoichi Kato. Kumiko Takahashi will be handling the character designs for it and confirmation of Sunrise handling the animation, which is no surprise.

Akira Kamiya will play Ryo Saeba and Kazue Ikura as Kaori Makimura. Additional cast includes Harumi Ichiryūsai as Saeko Nogami, Tesshō Genda as Umibozu, Mami Koyama as Miki, Marie Iitoyo as Ai Shindō, Kōichi Yamadera as Shinji Mikuni, Houchu Ohtsuka as Vince Englert, and Yoshimi Tokui as Conita.

The manga began back in 1985 and we’ve seen a lot of adaptations and spinoffs across a range of media since then.

Property Concept: Ryo Saeba is back, bringing the flavors of the 1980s to 2019! When gorgeous model Ai Shindo finds herself stalked by mysterious men, she comes to Ryo and his crew for protection. While he tries to hunt down the potential assassins (and maybe score a little nookie in the process), he ends up catching wind of a superweapon shipment landing in Shinjuku very soon. Could the two be connected? And with City Hunter on the case, will Tokyo survive the night?! City Hunter: Shinjuku Private Eyes brings the beloved franchise into a new era, offering a non-stop ride of stunning action animation, gut-busting comedy, and enough cameos to make any fan squeal!
