Get ready for tortuous incremental teasers and trailers.

With the original Evangelion TV series hitting Netflix last year and spawning plenty of conversation, the next Rebuild film looks to be inching closer to reality. With Evangelion 3.0 arriving in 2012, Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 was set for a June 27th, 2020 Japanese theatrical debut and as one can guess, that’s out the window thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. With theaters shutting down around the world, the studio pulled the film from that date but had not updated it with a new date, as expected.

In the time since then, we’ve seen GKIDS pick up the rights to the TV series and original films and now some new movement is happening with this final Rebuild film. A new teaser trailer has arrived for it ahead of the debut of the Demon Slayer film where it’s giving this a January 23rd, 2021 arrival. Check out the teaser below.

Plot concept: After the second impact, all that remains of Japan is Tokyo-3, a city that’s being attacked by giant creatures that seek to eradicate the human kind, called Angels. After not seeing his father for more than eight years, Shinji Ikari receives a phone call, in which he is told to urgently come to the NERV Headquarters, an organization that deals with the destruction of the Angels through the use of giant mechs called Evas.
