The Lupin the 3rd franchise moved into its next phase, one that creator Monkey Punch was excited about before his passing last year, with Lupin III THE FIRST. The film saw a December 6th, 2019 debut in Japan where it was written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki. GKIDS previously picked up the rights to the film with plans for it to be released theatrically this year in its original Japanese language with English subtitled as well as a newly commissioned English-language dub not long after. They’ve got it slotted for an October 18th and 21st debut for the dub and then the subtitled version through Fathom Events and then on October 23rd it’ll get released in select theaters.
They’re not waiting long to get the home video release out for it, however as the DVD/BD release is now scheduled for a January 12th, 2021 debut that’s priced at $26.98. The set will have a steelbook edition as well when it arrives on the same date priced at $32.98. For those wanting it digitally, it’ll be available on December 15th, 2020.
