Benedict Cumberbatch Boards Next ‘Spider-Man’ Film

"You're making a Spider-Man film!" "No, you're making a Spider-Man Film!"

With plans made back in September 2019 for a third installment of Spider-man between Sony and Marvel, things are moving forward a bit more with it as some new casting has come in. The film, originally planned for a summer 2021 debut pre-pandemic, already had the base cast returning with Tom Holland as Peter Parker along with Zendaya, Marisa Tomei, Tony REvolori, and Jacob Batalon. It was also previously set that Jon Watts would return to direct this installment as well, which is definitely welcome for the continuity and comfort with the cast and the larger narrative going on.

Now, it’s been revealed that Benedict Cumberbatch will be joining the production as well as Doctor Strange. Cumberbatch is in prep mode for his sequel film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, that’s supposedly ready to begin filming almost anytime now. Cumberbatch’s role in the untitled third Spider-Man film has him serving as a kind of mentor role according to some of the scuttlebutt that I’ve been hearing. Both characters/actors played well in the Avengers: Infinity War scenes they shared and with both being set for the New York aspect, it adds a little more connectivity.
