With Kadokawa bringing out the two seasons of Log Horizon as priced-down Blu-ray sets in early January 2020, the timing was right to announce that a third season is coming. That season was set for an October 2020 debut on NHK Educational as Log Horizon: Fall of the Round Table but it ended up being delayed until the January 2021 period due to the cascade effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, Funimation has confirmed their pickup for the third series that’s scheduled for a January 13th, 2021 debut at 7:25 PM JST. They’ll have more details on the streaming of the series as the season gets closer.

Shinji Ishihara is set to direct the show based on the scripts from Toshizo Nemoto. Studio Deen will be handling the animation production.

The Japanese cast includes Takuma Terashima as Shiroe, Tomoaki Maeno as Naotsugu, Emiri Katō as Akatsuki, Jouji Nakata as Nyanta, Daiki Yamashita as Tōya, Nao Tamura as Minori, Eriko Matsui as Isuzu, Tetsuya Kakihara as Lundellhaus, Yukiyo Fujii as Tetra, Yumi Hara as Marielle, Ayahi Takagaki as Henrietta, Misaki Kuno as Serara, Mariya Ise as Lenessia Erhart Cowen, Ikumi Hayama as Elissa, Marina Inoue as Kanami, Takahiro Sakurai as Crusty, Kaori Nazuka as Misa Takayama, Rie Murakawa as Lizé, Hiro Shimono as Sōjirō, Hiroki Gotō as Michitaka, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Karashin, Satoshi Hino as Isaac, Masakazu Nishida as Eins, and Yūichi Nakamura as William Massachusetts.

Plot concept: Elder Tales has become a global phenomenon, immersing millions of players in its online fantasy world. However, something goes wrong with the twelfth expansion pack. Eight-year veteran Shiroe and 30,000 other players suddenly find themselves trapped in the game’s no-longer-fictional universe!

Except it’s not even exactly the game they knew: things are in different places, the portals don’t work, and if a gamer was playing an avatar who wasn’t a physical match for their real self… well, let’s just say that everyone who’s been playing is going to have to make some serious adjustments to their new world view.

On top of that, the former Non-Player-Characters are now self-aware and working towards their own ends. This collision of the Elder Tale people and players with seemingly impossible skills, abilities, and knowledge promises to be cataclysmic. Get ready for heroes to rise and new legends to be forged as Shiroe and fellow players Naotsugu and Akatsuki discover what happens when sword and sorcery becomes real!
