30 Day Book Challenge Day 24: Best Book To Other Media Adaptation

2 min read

Adaptations of books into other mediums has been going on forever with varied success. A lot of adaptations were hindered by what could be done with special effects at the time, and we had a long period where it felt like most book to movie adaptations were more “inspired by” than actual adaptations, having only a loose connection to the source – sometimes just in the name itself.

But there have been a lot of strong ones that have done things right – and even expanded past the source in interesting ways when the original creators are involved – and it’s easier to have faith in a proper adaptation these days than twenty years ago or more, at least in my review.

What adaptation has worked the best for you when it comes to adapting the source material? For me, it’s The Expanse. It’s taken all the right thing from the novels but it’s also not been a literal adaptation in following the novels as later works deal with earlier time periods and they’ve brought in pieces from across the board so that it fits together as a better narrative but also seeing what’s to come.

Bonus Question: We asked before about what adaptation would you want to be redone but here we’re going to asked which one you think just failed across the board to understand and translate the source material to another medium.
