The CW is getting things in order for the upcoming sixth season of Supergirl that’s set to arrive in January and it looks like they put some changes into it not that long ago. The season was already going to be a little different at the start as lead Melissa Benoist is taking some time off due to her pregnancy (congrats!) and they’re going to be filming “around” her for a bit. With that in mind, the show has decided to make this the last season and while a lot of the show are going for a half-season length due to the pandemic and late filming, this one will go out for its normal run of twenty episodes and is being planned as a way to bring the series/character to a close – though presumably still available on occasion for other events.

This marks the second “Arrowverse” series to end since Arrow began in 2011 which itself wrapped up earlier this year after the Crisis on Infinite Earths which has allowed the DC Films side to play wide without feeling constrained by continuity.

The series airs on The CW with streaming the day after through their site and app.

The main cast includes Melissa Benoist as Kara Danvers / Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Katie McGrath as Lena Luthor, Jesse Rath as Querl Dox / Brainiac 5, Nicole Maines as Nia Nal / Dreamer, David Harewood as J’onn J’onzz / Martian Manhunter, Azie Tesfai as Kelly Olsen, Andrea Brooks as Eve Teschmacher, Julie Gonzalo as Andrea Rojas, and Staz Nair as William Dey.

Series Concept:  At 12 years old, Kara Zor-El escapes doom on planet Krypton to find protection on Earth with the Danvers family, where she grows up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex, and learns to hide the extraordinary powers she shares with her cousin, Superman. Now an adult living in National City and working for media mogul Cat Grant, Kara finds her days of keeping her abilities a secret are over when super-secret agency head Hank Henshaw enlists her to help protect the city’s citizens from threats. Finally coming into her own, Kara must juggle her new responsibilities with her very human relationships.
