Funimation Adds ‘Coppelion’ Anime Streaming

2 min read

Coppelion VisualWhile this series has come and gone in a number of territories, the anime adaptation of the Coppelion property has found itself a new home for awhile. Viz Media has brought the series in bilingual form over to the Funimation streaming service where it’s available to viewers in the US and Canada, which is where they own the rights to handle it. The show originally aired way back in 2013 and we’ve seen a few releases for it over the years, with a home video in 2015 in the US, and talking about UK and German releases a bit more recently. It’s definitely an interesting show to check out during the upcoming seasonal change where there’s some gaps in your schedule.

Check out our review of the series.

Coppelion is based on the manga by Tomonori Inoue and the anime premiered in the fall of 2013. The seinen series, the first one from Inoue, began back in 2008 and wrapped up in Kodansha’s Young Magazine in 2016 with twenty-six volumes total.

Plot concept: The series takes place in the not-so-distant future as a catastrophic event has turned the old capital of Japan into a wasteland, forever changing the lives of its people. Decades later, three schoolgirls set foot into the now forsaken city. They are the Coppelion, genetically engineered humans created by the Japan Ground Self-Defense Forces to operate under the lethal conditions of the contaminated city. Trained since birth, the girls must use all of their skills and resources to carry out their one and only mission: to rescue those left behind.
