Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Episode #10 Anime Review

This episode was a great ad for the Tottori Prefecture in Japan. Heck, I'm pretty sure the governor even made a cameo at the beginning.

“I Want to Hang Out in Tottori!”

What They Say:
University student Shinichi Sakurai is comfortable being an introverted loner and doesn’t care what others think. Buxom underclassmen Hana Uzaki doesn’t understand this one bit. A tornado of joy, she’s taken it upon herself to make him more social. Starting to enjoy her company, he’d concede that they’re friends. Can it be possible to have as much fun with another person as he would by himself?

Shinichi and Uzaki are on vacation in Tottori. What should they do first? Obviously, they’ve got to check out the famous sand dunes! Maybe even do a little sandboarding. Out of nowhere, they’re approached by a car with two shady people in it. Oh, it’s just Ami and Sakaki. See? I told you these shady people would turn out to be them. No doubt they’re here to get their fill of the Shinichi and Uzaki show. Sakaki gives them a ride to the sand dunes. Randomly, a tour guide shows up and starts giving them a history lesson. How insightful! Uzaki proposes a race to the ocean. Whoever loses has to buy the winner an ice cream. Shinichi takes that bet! He starts running down those sand but it’s proving to be a challenge. He should have grabbed a sandboard like Uzaki! It looks like she’s going to win this race when her board suddenly stops. That’s unfortunate. Shinichi manages to blow right past her and claim victory. He even lets out a victory cry! Free ice cream is serious business.

After taking a couple’s photo, who struck a lovey-dovey heart pose, Shinichi drags Uzaki away to their next destination. At the museum, they’re given another history lesson by the random tour guide lady. Did she follow them here? Did they even ask for a tour guide!? Anyway, the museum has various local specialties on display. Those specialties turn out to be manga, figurines, and nendoroids. Alright, this is my kind of museum! Tottori is known as the Manga Prefecture and is also home to a figurine factory. These totally count as local specialties. You don’t have to convince me! You also don’t have to convince Uzaki. She’s ready to buy a bunch of nendoroids. Right on! Also, they run into that couple from the beach again.

Next up is Hakuto Shrine! The group once again gets a history lesson from the spunky tour guide who keeps following them around. Uzaki runs off somewhere and returns with rabbit cakes. She also brought the store clerk with her because she needs Shinichi to pay for them, haha. She gives one to Shinichi at least. When he’s about to eat it, Uzaki makes sad bunny noises which irritates him. Uzaki proceeds to eat half of his rabbit cake. You snooze, you lose! She’s about to gobble up the rest but Shinichi quickly takes a bite of it. He realizes he just indirectly kissed Uzaki and freezes up. Uzaki takes this chance to take a bite off his rabbit cake. She realizes a few seconds later that she just indirectly kissed Shinichi and starts blushing. D’aww.

The group head over to draw their fortunes. This is what Ami and Sakaki have been waiting for. Shinichi and Uzaki don’t know the true Tottori! Shinichi draws a good fortune while Uzaki draws a great fortune. Naturally, Uzaki has to tease him about it. What does the fortune say? Uzaki reads the back of her fortune which states that her ideal partner is a loner gamer who’s one year older than her. He should be directly in front of her. That’s oddly specific. Also, it’s totally Shinichi. Uzaki is blushing! What kind of fortune is this? Well, clearly it’s a love fortune. Ami and Sakaki explain that this is the true Tottori. It’s a mecca for couples in love! Everyone has been seeing these two as a couple. This ticks off Uzaki. There’s no way she and senpai would be a couple! Stop lying to yourself! Ami and Sakaki are having way too much fun at her expense.

Afterward, Shinichi and Uzaki can’t shake off the lovers’ vibe around them. Everywhere they go is filled with lovey-dovey couples! Ami and Sakaki keep poking fun at them. The random tour guide is still following them. And they keep bumping into that one couple. This is driving them nuts! They decide to relax at the Misasa hot spring. Sadly, Shinichi and Uzaki have got no chill. They argue and it leads to a competitive showdown between the two at a nearby arcade the lasts the whole night. The next day, the group decides to hang out at Mizuki Shigeru Road. For those of you who don’t know Mizuki Shigeru, he’s the man behind the GeGeGe no Kitarō manga. Honestly, I’d love to visit Mizuki Shigeru Road someday. All those GeGeGe no Kitarō references! Ami and Sakaki both agree that Shinichi and Uzaki’s relationship is pretty tasty. They definitely had their fill on this trip!

In Summary:
This episode was a great ad for the Tottori Prefecture in Japan. Heck, I’m pretty sure the governor even made a cameo at the beginning. But you know what? I think it worked. I’m not going to lie, this episode really made me want to go to Tottori. I’d love to see the Conan Airpot and Kitaro Road. I wouldn’t mind sandboarding on those sand dunes either. And you better believe I’d check out that nendoroid museum! Blatant tourism ad aside, this was another fun episode. It had its cute and funny moments but they felt a bit forced at times. That was mainly because Ami and Sakaki were really egging them on this episode. I like it when they don’t get too involved and just let things happen naturally. Also, why didn’t anyone call out those two for being the most like a couple? That would have brought them down a notch. And lastly, why was that tour guide always following them around!?
