The summary above really doesn’t do the story justice.

What They Say
Chloe is ready to begin her revenge plot and get what she has always wanted – that is, until Vanitas and the Chasseurs showed up. But without his book, Vanitas can do little to help, so it’s up to Noé and his vampire hunter allies to buy some time, so Vanitas can work a little magic…

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers):
Vanitas and Noé figure out what has been going on in Gévaudan, and the beast started out as no more than a cover story to hide the fact that the area had illegal vampire hunts. Chloe was a target, and in order to gain more power, Jean-Jacques became the beast to protect Chloe. During the chaos, Chloe lost everything dear to her, and that loss fueled the need to avenge those lost loved ones. Chloe is on the verge of being “lost” when Vanitas shows up. He is ready to save her, but his book lays somewhere in the disaster of Chloe’s library. Dante shows up to assist Vanitas, but Chloe is ready to erase Gévaudan from the World Formula. But, it exactly as Vanitas guesses.

Chloe is forcing Naenia into a physical being for one reason only. Chloe wants to kill Naenia. She loathes the being that has been in her and manipulating her. Everyone else that is around the castle rushes in. Vanitas warns Chloe not to go any further because if Naenia remember who she truly is, no one will be able to stop her. It’s too late, and Naenia is resurrected back to her original self, the first vampire of the red moon, Queen Faustina. Her existence is short-lived as the instrument that brought about her physical form is shut down. However, the effects are far-reaching and potentially are putting Gévaudan citizens at risk. It doesn’t look good, but some help has just shown up.

Roland and the Chasseurs arrive, but not necessarily to help out Vanitas and Noé. Even if Roland is on their side and willing to help, their comradery would not be taken well by the Chasseurs. Roland and Olivier focus on saving the people of Gévaudan while Vanitas and Noé work on saving Chloe and hopefully, Jeanne along with her. The mission now is to find Vanitas’s book and save Chloe.

In Summary:
The summary above really doesn’t do the story justice. There are so many things simultaneously happening that it’s hard to relay it in words alone. This volume packs a lot of action, back story, and content that it takes time to sift through and understand the layers upon layers of the story presented. I do really continue to love this story, even if at times it does get a bit overwhelming. I feel that this might be partly due to the series release is spread quite far apart. Volume six was released in December 2019 and volume five in January 2019. Yen Press is releasing the story chapter by chapter, but since I’m not reading it that way, it takes me some time to remember what happened in the last volume. Still highly this series for its storytelling, art, and content.

I did notice that art was not detailed as much as before, but the action scenes were very dynamic. It would be beautiful to see in full color someday in an animated form. From a packaging perspective, there was a color insert. I did note that the cover was cut slightly smaller than the interior. Ads at the back of the book which have not always been present were noted this time.
