Originally serialized in Comic Kairakuten BEAST from the June 2020 installment, Spring Is When the Lively Rookies Come Along is a twenty-page story from creator Mayutsuba Mono, making this their first work on the service. There’s definitely allure in having a new artist and the uncertainty as to both what type of material they’ll produce and the quality of the artwork itself but that’s part of the fun, like unwrapping a present. And this one really delights from start to finish as it comes across with such a huge healthy enthusiasm for things that it just makes you smile a whole lot.
The premise introduces us to coworkers Munemitsu and Matagura as a night of drinking with each other and several other coworkers has come to a close. Everyone else has ditched the drunk and almost unconscious Matagura with her and she’s just frustrated by it because she just wants to go home and masturbate. Reluctantly, she helps him out into the street and walking toward the station in hopes of him getting it together to go home on his own, though he’s well enough to happily talk about wanting to spend the night with her. What ends up getting her attention is not the requests but that he claims to have something special about his member that no other girl has turned down once they realized it. She’s managed to have her curiosity piqued and finds herself willing to give him a chance since they’re walking by a love hotel.
What becomes amusing is that after a bit of back and forth that sets up just how sex-positive Munemitsu is, he reveals that his member basically vibrates when he’s turned on. He recounts how it’s a problem on the train, for example, and watching her has him at full speed. She’s actually intrigued by it and the oddness of that and with her own vibrator in her purse she goes to town there. The whole thing basically pushes both of them to new levels and they really, really, get into the situation as it unfolds. The intimate scenes are standard in a general sense but the vibrant and toys bring more to it than most other chapters but there’s also just such joy and happiness to what they’re going through that it really delivers something that feels like a special experience. They’re engaged and enjoying everything and there are no problematic moments to be had at all.
In Summary
I really like what Mayutsuba Mono brings to the table here. The character designs are great for both and Munemitsu gets dialed up nicely with the hair design and look as well as wearing glasses and some lingerie. The backgrounds are well-handled throughout so it adds to the experience and while we get a bit silly from time to time with things that don’t quite flop around like illustrated, it’s a lot of fun and just the expressiveness of the characters goes a long way. As I said, there’s a good sense of joy and pleasure going on here without it going into a creepy or disturbing realm and that makes it a thoroughly enjoyable experience, leaving me hopeful there’s more in our future from this creator.
